Trend: Much ado about podcasting

While I was purging my iPhone last week to liberate more space for cat photos, I tapped around Overcast, my iPod app. It had been a couple months since my podcast immersion and I subscribe to a plethora of the programs.

I love podcasts and my eyes are much bigger than my ears. The backlog of episodes I found easily surpassed the number of Alex & Ani bracelets at your average One Direction concert. Podcasts are addictive and iTunes provides a free buffet.

It is no secret that social media is a rapidly changing field—with new social platforms popping up left and right (in fact, social app Peach became the hottest thing in social media on Wednesday January 13th and was then proclaimed dead the following Monday—talk about short lived). With more than 2 billion active social media users worldwide, it’s now more important than ever to stay on top of social trends to keep your brand relevant. Here are 5 trends we think are changing the social media landscape for good… or at least for now.

The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz has experienced a lot of fanfare here in Boston. When Tom Brady was asked by WEEI what he did to keep his sanity and make it through Deflategate, Tom’s response was, “I read a pretty cool book nine years ago that is kind of a mantra for my life... I re-read it once a year just to reflect and get perspective, and it’s served me pretty well. You read it and you just go, Goddamn. You know, how can I be more honest, accept things that don’t go as planned? When you try to combat everything, at the end of the day, you realize that you are responsible for yourself”.

Memories and Traditions- KHJ’s Reflections on Thanksgiving

What does this season of ‘gratitude’ and ‘thanks’ really mean today? If you leave it to marketers, we can be pushed to be giving thanks that Toyota is not doing a traditional Black Friday sale but are extending the sale for the month. Or that Kmart is opening at 6am on Thanksgiving Day to give shoppers even more time to shop the deals.

While we were chatting about the ‘grateful thanks’ and its often watered down messaging we as marketers sometimes capitalize on, we began sharing our own memories and traditions for Thanksgiving. What makes us long for this holiday and what brings a smile to our face? We thought we would share some of our memories and traditions with you. Will you share your traditions with us?

Thank goodness it’s Friday! What a week here at KHJ. If celebrating Friday wasn’t enough, we have something BIGGER to celebrate. Our very own Judy Habib is being celebrated for her accomplishments that led to her becoming one of the top 100… no scratch that… one of the top 50 women led-companies in the state by The Commonwealth Institute and the Boston Globe magazine.

That was a quote from our CEO Judy Habib in today’s Wall Street Journal article “The Missing Boom in Small-Business Sales.” Journalist Ruth Simon dispels predictions that with baby boomers reaching “retirement age,” sales of small businesses would also rise. As Judy was quoted, “The world has changed and lifespans have changed…Do we really think (baby boomers) will fade off into the sunset? NO.” That’s no surprise to the crew at KHJ. Whether you’re a baby boomer, GenX or millennial, it’s all about new horizons. See and realize what’s possible. That’s us for sure.

Still bringing good things to life: GE’s new recruitment campaign

GE may have changed their tagline more than a decade ago after almost 25 years but they are still bringing good things to life… and I’m not talking about lightbulbs and appliances or jet engines and wind turbines. In September, GE launch a new campaign called “What’s the matter with Owen?” on late night TV. This campaign featured in AdAge and AdWeek is designed to serve a dual purpose: to position GE as a digital industrial company AND to recruit young professionals to join GE.
